Overview is the first screen you see when Crumb opens. It answers two questions at a glance: how much space is left, and what you can do about it.

The Overview screen: the startup disk with 41.8 GB available, a Find space to free button, and a list of tools
Overview, before a scan.

Your disk

The top card shows your startup disk, how much space is available, and a bar of what is used and what is free.

After a Free Space scan, the bar gains a gold part for what Crumb can clear, and a line under it says how much: Crumb found 16.1 GB it can clear. It also tells you whether that includes the Trash, which doesn't come back once emptied.

The big button follows along. Before a scan it reads Find space to free and starts one. After a scan that found something, it reads Review and the amount, and takes you to the list on Free Space.

Tools

Each row opens a tool, with a short note on what it found the last time it looked:

  • Organize Downloads sorts a folder into tidy subfolders. Organize guide.
  • Uninstall apps removes apps with the files they leave behind. Uninstall guide.
  • Find duplicates finds extra copies in Downloads and Desktop. Duplicates guide.
  • Visualize shows what takes space in your home folder. Visualize guide.
  • Check a folder lets you pick any folder and tells you whether it is safe to delete. Safe? checks guide.

Recent cleanups

Recent cleanups: 13.7 GB freed in the last 7 days with a bar per day, 128.6 GB since you started, two cleanups listed, and the Clean every week on its own switch turned on
Recent cleanups, with the weekly clean switch at the bottom.

This card shows how much you freed in the last 7 days, with a bar for each day, and how much you've freed since you started using Crumb.

Below that are your latest cleanups: when each one ran, what it removed and how much space it gave back. Cleanups Crumb ran on its own start with Automatic. If there are more than three, click Show … earlier cleanups to see the rest.

Clean every week on its own

The switch at the bottom of the card turns on the weekly clean. Once a week Crumb clears only things that rebuild themselves. It never empties the Trash and never touches your own files. This is part of Crumb Pro.

Crumb needs to be running for the weekly clean, so leave it in the menu bar. Weekly cleaning, alerts and starting at login covers the rest.
