Organize tidies a cluttered folder by moving its loose files into folders by type: screenshots with screenshots, installers with installers, documents with documents. It starts with Downloads. Files are only moved, never deleted, and you can undo the last sort.

Pick a folder
The buttons at the top switch between Downloads, Desktop and Documents. For any other folder, click Choose folder…. The full path of the folder appears under the buttons.
Check the plan
Before anything moves, Crumb lists the folders it will make inside the folder you picked, how many files go into each, their size, and an example file. Only files sitting loose in the folder move. Folders that are already there stay where they are, and hidden files are left alone.
| New folder | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Screenshots | Screenshots from macOS and CleanShot |
| Screen Recordings | Screen recordings from macOS |
| Images | JPEG, PNG, HEIC, GIF, WebP, SVG and other pictures |
| Videos | MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and other videos |
| Audio | MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, FLAC and AIFF |
| Documents | PDF, Word, Pages, Keynote, PowerPoint, text, Markdown and EPUB |
| Data | Excel, Numbers, CSV, TSV and JSON |
| Archives | ZIP, RAR, 7z, TAR and other compressed files |
| Installers | DMG and PKG files |
| Code | Source files such as .py, .js, .swift and .html |
| Websites | Saved web pages, kept together with their folder of images |
| Other | Everything else |
Only the folders that are needed get made. Run Organize again later and it sorts the new arrivals into the same folders.
Group photos and videos by month
Turn on Group photos and videos by month to split screenshots, screen recordings, images and videos into a folder per month inside their type folder, such as Screenshots/2026-10. The plan updates as soon as you flip the switch.
The Name document folders by topic switch below it isn't available yet, so it stays off. Your folders are named by file type, as in the table above.
Sort the folder
- Click Organize and the number of files, at the top right.
- Crumb asks once more. Click Organize to confirm.
The files move into their new folders, and Crumb tells you how many files went into how many folders.
Undo a sort
Right after a sort, the button at the top turns into Undo. Later on, even after quitting Crumb, use Undo the last sort at the bottom of the screen. Either one puts every file back where it was.
Undo covers the most recent sort only.
